Configuring Email Clients to Work with Your dotCanada.com Hosting

Setting up your email client to connect with your dotCanada.com hosting account allows you to send and receive emails through applications like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for configuring popular email clients with your dotCanada.com email account.

Before You Begin: Gather Your Email Settings

You'll need the following information for setup:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account at https://{hostname}.mysecureservers.com:2087
  2. Navigate to Email Accounts
  3. Find your email account and click Connect Devices
  4. Note down the following information:
    • Username: Your full email address (e.g., user@yourdomain.com)
    • Password: Your email account password
    • Incoming Server (IMAP/POP3): Usually mail.yourdomain.com
    • Outgoing Server (SMTP): Usually mail.yourdomain.com
    • IMAP Port: 993 (with SSL/TLS)
    • POP3 Port: 995 (with SSL/TLS)
    • SMTP Port: 587 (with STARTTLS) or 465 (with SSL/TLS)
    • Authentication: Required for both incoming and outgoing servers
IMAP vs. POP3: We recommend using IMAP instead of POP3 because IMAP synchronizes your mail across all devices and keeps it on the server. POP3 typically downloads emails to your device and removes them from the server.

  • Network issues: Ensure your internet connection is stable
  • Server status: Check if there are any known email server issues via the dotCanada.com status page
  • Account limits: Ensure your mailbox isn't full or exceeding quota limits
